COPACABANA –TITICACA LAKE

The Sanctuary of Copacabana is located at 156km from the city of La Paz at 3,840 of altitude meters above sea level. The trip lasts about 3.5 hours, through a paved highway by bus from La Paz. Copacabana comes from two Aymara words: KOTA (lake) and KAHUANA (Lake’s viewpoint).
Copacabana is a majestic Andean Peninsula, with a small bay in the Lake Titikaka, with its archaeological remains of the Inca’s Empire, as well as, wonderful natural attractions that allow the practice of many different types of activities.
The Sanctuary of Copacabana is the center pilgrimage of both National and International faithful followers, who turn up daily to the Basilica inside the Sanctuary in order to pray for blessing, and ask for wishes to come true, these are the petitions to the Miraculous Virgin of Copacabana (Brunette Virgin of Copacabana).
The Copacabana’s Peninsula is also a departure point to head up to the Sun Island or Moon Island.

SACRED LAKE OF TITICACA

Lake Titicaca or “Stoned Puma” is the highest and largest navigable lake in the world at 3,810 m.a.s.l of altitude, with a surface of 8.710 km². This lake is shared by Bolivia and Peru, it is divided into two parts called; “Lago Menor” (Minor Lake or Chucuito) and “Lago Mayor”(Major lake or Huiñay Marca).
Known as “Sacred Lake”, it has been protection to ancient cultures such as Tiwanaku’s culture as well as Inca’s culture. Due to its spectacular landscape and energy wealth, it is a wonderful attraction for nature lovers, also to enjoy an unforgettable view of the Real Mountain Range and the islands that are located within the Lake, in this way you can be part of this nature.
The sacred and mysterious lake was the cradle of Andean civilization, populated by Aymara and Quechua people who still maintain their ancient customs and traditions inherited by their past ancestors.
Lake Titicaca offers a variety of fauna composed mainly by: ducks and fish such as; the Karachi, Ispi, Mauri, Pejerrey and Trout, among many. Its flora is represented by 12 different aquatic plants from which we can mention: the Yana Llacho and duckweed. This Sacred Lake has 36 islands, among the most important ones we can name: The islands of Sun and Moon, which are located in the Bolivian territory and the islands of Taquile and Amantani in the Peruvian territory. Finally, the water temperature fluctuates between 10° C to 15° C.

Day 01: LA PAZ – COPACABANA – SUN ISLAND
07:20 – 08:00am: The tour starts by picking up the tourists from hotel/hostel in La Paz city (downtown area only) to go through a paved road to the peninsula of Copacabana, located at 151km from the city of La Paz. The trip takes approximately 3.5 hours. The highway goes around the Titicaca Lake with a breath taking view of the Real Mountain Range. Arrival and accommodation in the hotel.
AFTERNOON TOUR TO SUN ISLAND After lunch we will begin our tour to the Sun Island, boat – crossing the Titicaca lake for about an hour and a half until we reach the southern part of the Sun Island, here we will be visit the archaeological remains of “Pilkokaina” Inca’s Temple, which is a religious center. Later on, a short trekking up the “Steps of Yumani”, which were built by Andean ancestors, to get to the “Fountain of Youth” in this sacred place you can purify yourself by drinking some of this eternal youth water. As well as, enjoying the beauty of the “Incan’s Garden”. Once we visit this place we will return to the town of Copacabana where you will have the accommodation for the evening.
Included: Tourist transport (La Paz – Copacabana), lunch, Sun Island Tour (boat, guide and entrance fees) + Hotel (Copacabana)/ option to stay overnight in the Sun Island.

Day 02: VISIT TO COPACABANA – PM. BUS COPACABANA - LA PAZ/PUNO.
After breakfast, you will be visiting the down town of Copacabana for about 2 hours, visiting the “Brunette Virgin Sanctuary”, the local fair of Copacabana, afterwards, we will ascend to the “Calvary” place, where you will meet particular people called “Yatiris” – “ Amautas” and “Quechuas” so you can get protection and blessing for your home.
At midday we will have lunch. At 13:30pm departure by bus to La Paz city or continue to Puno (Perú).
Included: Breakfast, lunch + visit to Copacabana, shared tourist transportation Copacabana - La Paz /Puno
