LARGEST SALT DESERT IN THE WORLD

SUCRE – POTOSI – UYUNI – SALT FLATS – SUD LIPEZ – LA PAZ

Day 01: ARRIVAL TO SUCRE
Arrival to the white city of Sucre (Airport / Bus Station) and transfer to hotel accommodation.
FREE DAY TO RELAX AND ENJOY THE BEAUTIFUL COLONIAL TOWN.
Hotel: Provided private bedroom with private bath + breakfast.
Included: Transfer IN + Hotel (Sucre).

Day 02: CITY TOUR SUCRE + DINOSAUR TRACKS – PM TRANSPORT TO POTOSI
AM. Pick up from the hotel to have City Tour. Without a doubt Sucre is one of the most beautiful cities in Bolivia and South America, also known as “La Ciudad Blanca” (The White city) because ever since the colonial period Sucre looks like your typical Spanish city. The “White City” was part of the La Plata Vice-Royalty during the past colonial periods which still dates maintaining the same atmospheric environment of old Colonial Times, located within the middle of the indigenous communities it is still influenced by the peasants and locals around the area whose colorful attires and traditions add cultural value to this amazing city.
AFTERNOON VISIT TO DINOSAUR FOOTPRINTS. Another interesting place to visit at 6 kilometers away from the city, which is located in Cal Orck´o (Cerro de Cal/ Hill of Cal) just outside the city of Sucre, here you will be able to observe a great and wide variety of prehistoric animals of different species footprints, it is also considered; one of the largest samples of dinosaur tracks in the world. According to studies and carbon dating this prints belonged to dinosaurs that roamed this area approximately 65 to 70 million years ago. After this visit, we will take you to the bus station in order to take shared transport to Potosi.
PM Transportation Sucre – Potosi (03 hrs approximately). Once we get to Potosi we will take you to the hotel/ hostel to have accommodation for the evening.

Day 03: SILVER MINES – CASA DE LA MONEDA MUSEUM.
08:40 am pick up from the hotel to initiate our great and interesting adventure to the great silver mines of Cerro Rico – Potosi, beginning the tour by visiting the mining market, a place where hundreds of miners gather to get the equipment that is necessary in order to start the journey at the mine: such as: dynamite, ammonium nitrate, detonators, lamps, drills and most important of all for the working miner liquor, and coca leaves. After the visit to the market we will visit, the refinery of minerals which has maintain active after many years, here you will observe the amalgamation process of minerals, after the visit, we will head towards the silver mines to observe the harsh working environment of the miners as well as the actual extraction of the minerals and silver in its raw form.
AFTERNOON VISIT TO HOUSE OF COIN MUSEUM.- The colonial city of Potosi is located at an altitude of 4,000 masl, the highest city in the world, located in the foothills of Cerro Rico; it is known for its Baroque architecture, beautiful churches, monasteries, temples, palaces and villas that adorn the picturesque narrow streets. Beginning the City Tour you will visit the “6 de Agosto” plaza, “10 de Noviembre” square, churches and the famous “Casa de la Moneda” (House of Coin Museum) as well as the local markets and surrounding areas.
Hotel: Bedrooms with private bathroom + breakfast.
Included: Tour Silver Mines (transportation, guide + equipment) and Visit Casa de la Moneda Museum + Hotel (Potosi).

Day 04: POTOSI – UYUNI TRANSPORTATION
Breakfast in the Hotel and free until transfer time to Potosi Bus Station. So we can take you to the Bus station.
AM transfer to Potosi bus station and check IN.
AM shared bus Potosi – Uyuni (05 hrs approximately).
PM arrival to Uyuni and transfer to Hotel accommodations.
Hotel: Provide bedroom with private bath + breakfast.
Included: Transfer and local bus ticket (Potosi – Uyuni) + Hotel (Uyuni).

Day 05: UYUNI – SALT FLATS – INCAHUASI – SAN JUAN
Breakfast at the hotel, and free until departure time of tour.
11:00 am depart on tour to the largest salt desert in the world; during the trajectory you will visit the following:
Train Cemetery.- Vintage locomotives and trains of the late 1890´s and early 1900´s, serving as carriers of salt and minerals throughout Bolivia and South America, this trains where part of a very important industrial past.
Population of Colchani.- Located at the banks of the great salt flats, Colchani serves as the main entrance to the salt desert; here you can observe the extraction of salt in its raw and craft form.
Salt Hotel.- Located at the heart of the great salt desert, it is constructed solely of salt blocks. It is an amazing piece of art work since every single detail is made from salt like chairs, beds and tables as well as the structure itself.
Incahuasi Island (Isla del Pescado).- Located in the middle of the salt desert, Incahuasi or Isla del Pescado is populated by numerous giant cacti with incredible heights of up to 10 meters plus and from the top of the island you are able to see an amazing landscape of the great salt flats of Uyuni. After our visit to the island we will provide lunch before departing towards the town of San Juan, here we will provide dinner and accommodations at a family home (basic refuge) for the evening.

Day 06: SAN JUAN – TREE ROCK – LAGOONS – LAGUNA COLORADA
After breakfast we continue our adventure with destination to Laguna Colorada (Red Lagoon), passing through the active volcano of “Ollague” and the following lagoons: Cañapa, Hedionda, Chiarcota and Honda which are populated by a wide variety of flamingos. Around noon lunch will be provided and through the afternoon you will pass through the Siloli desert where you will observe a very unusual and yet interesting rock formation known as “Arbol de Piedra” (stone tree), after the visit you arrive to Laguna Colorada which is located at the Eduardo Avaroa National Park of Andean Fauna, here we will provide dinner and accommodations at a family home (basic refuge) for the evening.
Included: Shared Jeep (4x4), breakfast, lunch and dinner + accommodations (basic refuge).

CONSIDER.- The shared expedition does not have a guide.

Day 07: LAGUNA COLORADA – LAGUNA VERDE – UYUNI – LA PAZ
05:00 am this day we will depart very early in the morning in order to appreciate the Geysers and volcanic vents (volcanic zone) known as “Sol de Mañana” (Morning Sun), continuing to the thermal waters of Polques where you can relax in the warm waters before continuing to the White and Green Lagoons which are located at the feet of the Licancabur Volcano. At an altitude of 4,350 masl, here you will see the intense green color of the lagoon, due to its high content of magnesium which is found in the geological formations surrounding the area. After the visit you will depart back to town of Uyuni, passing through Valley of Rocks and the populations of Villa Alota, Kulpinaka and San Cristobal until arriving to Uyuni at approximately 18:30 pm in the afternoon and free until overnight bus to La Paz.
20:00 pm overnight bus Uyuni – La Paz (11 hrs approximately).
Included: Shared Jeep, breakfast and lunch + bus ticket (Uyuni – La Paz).

Day 08: ARRIVAL TO LA PAZ
07:30 am approximate arrival to La Paz bus terminal and accommodations at Hotel.
FREE DAY TO RELAX AND SHOP.
Hotel: Room with private bath + breakfast.
Included: Hotel accommodations (La Paz).

RECOMMENDATIONS: Take sheltered clothes, sunglasses, sleeping bag, sun cream, a towel, (Personal Stuff).

  • This is a scenic expedition and does not include a guide.
  • It does not include entrance fee to the Red Lagoon (Laguna Colorada) and Fish Island (Isla del Pescado).

Info: The appropriate months to visit this circuit is between May – December (dry seasons).
December – March (rainy season, it is not recommended to visit the Salt Flats in this season).
