Without any doubt El Choro trail is the most popular and fascinating pre-Columbian trails of the city of La Paz, because of its gorgeous walk which starts at “La Cumbre” (4,700 masl) and leads within the Cotapata National Park. Throughout the tree day and approximately 60km walk you will find a wide variety of landscapes and a diverse climate.
Those who carry out this adventure are amazed with the trails and scenery which make you part of a fabulous past over 500 years ago this trails served as a means of transport and communication between the populations of the Altiplano and the Valleys for trade and exporting products. Through the walk you will pass through the “Cordillera Real”, small rivers and towns were you can appreciate the traditional lifestyle of the local indigenous people.
Day 01: LA PAZ – CUMBRE – CHALLAPAMPA
08:00am pick up from your hotel/hostel(downtown La Paz only) in private transport and depart from the city of La Paz to “La Cumbre” located at 4,700 masl and about an hour and a half away from the city, the cooks and carriers who will take all of the camping equipment for the group will be waiting at La Cumbre for us., once acquainted we will begin our long walk passing through the “Chucura Cumbre” at 4,900 masl and be amazed with the impressive landscape of Huayna Potosi. After a rightful rest and light lunch we begin descending through the Inka Trail in the Chucura Valley until reaching the town of Challapamapa, here we will have dinner and set up camp for the evening.
Day 02: CHALLAPAMPA – CHORO – SAN FRANCISCO
After breakfast we begin our trekking for approximately four hours until reaching the hanging bridge that crosses the River “Juqumarini”, along the way you will appreciate the subtropical vegetation which has a variety of bromeliads, bamboos, orchids, and a variety of medicinal plants along with lots of tropical birds. Continuing the walk up the slope until reaching our campsite located at San Francisco.

Day 03: SAN FRANCISCO - SANDILLANI – CHAIRO – COROICO
After breakfast we begin our walk ascending up the slope of the Devil and go through several snowy slopes that descend through the Cotapata National Park until arriving to Sandillani, here we will provide lunch and throughout afternoon hours we continue descending to the town of Chairo located at 1,200 masl. On arrival to Chairo we will depart in private transport to the city of Coroico where you will receive accommodation at a hotel for the evening.
Day 04: COROICO – LA PAZ
After breakfast you will have the rest of the day free to explore and to enjoy the warm climate of the town of Coroico. Lunch will be provided at noon and later on we will depart back to the city of La Paz passing through the well known “Death Road”.
