VISIT THE LARGEST SALT DESERT IN THE WORLD

“NATURAL WONDER OF BOLIVIA”

Day 01: SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA – GREEN LAGOON – RED LAGOON
07:50am: Meeting in our office at San Pedro, Atacama before beginning the tour.
08:00am: Departure from San Pedro to Hito Cajones (Border Chile – Bolivia) here we will be doing Migration to get in Bolivia as well as changing vehicles, continuing to Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon) and Laguna Blanca (White Lagoon) both located at the bottom of the volcano Licancabur at an altitude of 4,350 m.a.s.l, the green color is due to the high content of magnesium that contain the geological formations surrounding the area. After the visit you will continue to the hot springs of Polques, Geysers and Volcanic vents, better known as “Morning Sun” and finally you will arrive to Laguna Colorada (Red Lagoon), here you will have accommodation for the evening in a basic refuge (family home).
Included: Shared transportation (San Pedro – Hito Cajones), shared jeep ( LandCruiser 4x4), lunch and dinner + accommodation in a (basic refuge).

Day 02: RED LAGOON – STONE TREE – LAGOONS – SAN JUAN
After breakfast we continue the adventure to the small town of San Juan passing through the Siloli Desert where you will observe an interesting rock formation known as “Árbol de piedra” (Stone tree). Continuing the tour you will pass through the following Lagoons “Chiarcota”, “Honda”, “Hedionda” and “Cañapa” which are heavily populated by pink flamingos. Later on, we will stop at the active volcano “Ollague” viewpoint for taking some pictures. Finally, within afternoon hours we will arrive to the population of San Juan where we will have accommodation for the evening at a basic refuge (family home).
Included: Shared Jeep, breakfast, lunch, dinner + accommodation at basic refuge/family home.

Day 03: SAN JUAN – INCAHUASI – SALT FLATS – UYUNI – LA PAZ
After breakfast we will continue the circuit to the largest salt desert in the world. On the way we will visit the following attractions:
Incahuasi Island (Isla del Pescado).- Located in the middle of the salt flat, Incahuasi or Isla del Pescado populated by numerous giant cactus with incredible heights of up to 10 meters, from the top of the island you are going to be able to see the amazing landscape of the salt flats.
Salt Hotel.- Located at the heart of the great salt desert, it is constructed solely of salt blocks. It is an amazing piece of art work since every single detail is made from salt like chairs, beds and tables as well as the structure itself.
Population of Colchani.- Located at the banks of the great salt flats, Colchani serves as the main entrance to the salt desert; here you can observe the extraction of salt in its raw and craft form.
Train Cemetery.- Vintage locomotives and trains of the late 1890´s and early 1900´s, serving as carriers of salt and minerals throughout Bolivia and South America, these trains were part of a very important industrial past. Throughout the tour we will have lunch and during the afternoon hours we will reach the town of Uyuni. Free until the hour of departure to the city of La Paz.
20:00 pm overnight bus to the city of La Paz (11 hrs approximately).
Included: Shared vehicle (Land Cruiser 4x4), breakfast, lunch + tourist bus ticket (Uyuni – La Paz).

Day 04: ARRIVAL TO LA PAZ
07:30am: Approximate arrival to La Paz (bus terminal), Accommodation at a hotel in La Paz.
Free day in La Paz to rest and relax which will be required after such expedition.
HOTEL: Room with private bath, hot water and breakfast.
Included: Hotel in La Paz

RECOMMENDATIONS: Take sheltered clothes, sunglasses, sleeping bag, sun cream, a towel, (Personal Stuff).

Note:

  • This is a scenic expedition and does not include a guide.
  • It does not include entrance fee to the Red Lagoon (Laguna Colorada) and Fish Island (Isla del Pescado).

Info: The appropriate months to visit this circuit is between May – December (dry seasons).
December – March (rainy season, it is not recommended to visit the Salt Flats in this season).
